The author considers numerical solutions of the nonlinear time-dependent Ginzburg-Landau model associated with superconducting films. A mixed variational formulation is given for the linear model and associated mixed finite element discretisation for the vector potential are discussed. The error estimates are calculated and the calculations are extended to the nonlinear parabolic system of equations for which stability and error estimates are given. The treatment is restricted to the case of the domain being a convex polygon in two dimensions. The treatment is abstract and there is no application of the methods discussed to an actual problem.
