The seventh edition of this excellent textbook contains minor corrections and two new sections (Chapter VIII, Sections 6 and 7) on weak compactness and weakly compact operators. Another change in this book includes several new bibliographical references. The book is addressed to students in mathematics and physics knowing the basic concepts in analysis and linear algebra. It can be used as an introductory textbook for courses in functional analysis. The presentations of the topics are clear and the text makes a very good reading containing extensive historical remarks, so an English edition would be most welcome.
