A set of polynomial functions that can be used in spectral expansions of \(C^\infty\) functions in polar coordinates is defined by a singular Sturm-Liouville equation. With these basis functions, the spectral representations remain analytic at the pole despite the coordinate singularity, as all azimuthal modes satisfy the pole condition exactly at the origin.
