The author studies the question when for a triangulated category \({\mathcal T}\) and a given object \(X\) there exists a triangulated functor \(G\) from the unbounded derived category of the integers to \({\mathcal T}\) sending the rank one free abelian group to \(X\). Moreover, the question when a triangulated functor \(H\) from \({\mathcal T}\) to the derived category of the integers with zero homology being \(\text{Hom}_{\mathcal T}(X,-)\) exists. Unicity of these functors is studied. The author shows that \(G\) and \(H\) exist if \({\mathcal T}\) is the stable category of a Frobenius category with set indexed coproducts in the sense of Happel. Moreover, these functors are unique in case \(X\) is compact, with flat endomorphism ring, and with vanishing first and second self-extension group.
