When somebody wants to start studying optimization and methods for solving optimization problems, this book is a good starting point. It describes the mentioned issues using an easy-to-read way, giving the opportunity to understand all the necessary elements. It presents the fundamental concepts and explanations of optimization problems and methods of how to solve them without too many mathematical details. Although the title puts the accent on modern heuristics, the book gives an overview of algorithms and heuristics for optimization problems, too. In this way a reader can understand the concept of modern heuristic in an easier way. At the end two case studies are presented as examples. The book is a nice contribution to the study of optimization problems and can be a significant help to the students and practitioners willing to apply modern heuristic methods.
