Let \(X\) be a complex algebraic surface which can have Hirzebruch-Jung singularities and let \(F\) be a holomorphic foliation such that the singularities of \(F\) are isolated and this singular locus sing\((F)\) is disjoint of that of \(X\). The author introduces a (singular) Hermitian metric on the restriction to \(X \setminus \) sing\((F)\) of the canonical bundle \(K_F\) of \(F\), which is called the canonical Poincaré metric. He proves the following concretization of an existence result, due to Demailly, of Hermitian metrics on \(K_F\) with positive curvature: let \(F\) be a nef foliation on a \(X\), suppose that there exists at least one hyperbolic leaf of \(F\). Then, the canonical Poincaré metric has positive curvature. Finally, in this interesting paper, the author proves that the only reduced nef foliations of Kodaira dimension \(-\infty\) are the Hilbert modular ones. This together with McQuillan's results achieves the classification of foliations of nongeneral type.
