This book is essentially a reprint of the influential and classic 1980 edition [Zbl 0458.58002] in the area of one-dimensional dynamics for maps of the interval. The vast majority of pages exactly replicate the 1980 edition down to the font, figures, and page numbers. However a few notable minor changes were made. For example, there is now a footnote on page 63 for the definition of a periodic point which excludes the possibility of a (non-periodic) pre-periodic point from the revised definition. In another change, on page 99 three sentences were adjusted for clarity in part 6 of the proof of Theorem II.4.1 (a stable periodic orbit of an S-unimodal map attracts either an endpoint or the critical point). On page 109, a new note is included about requiring the further hypothesis \(f'(-1)>1\) for S-unimodal maps. These fine adjustments make a positive addition to this vital milestone work in the field of dynamical systems.
