The authors investigate the numerical solution of the convection-diffusion equations. They start with the one-dimensional problem and study the main properties of the approach and explain how some of classical volume schemes can be derived in a simple and systematic manner. They introduce the convective and diffusion fluxes as auxiliary variables in each cell, relax the continuity of the fluxes across the interelement via two Lagrange multipliers and obtain two abstract dual mixed and hybrid formulations. The finite element discretization of the methods and a few remarks are given. Some numerical results to validate the newly proposed schemes are presented at the end of the article.
