Let \(\Delta (u)\) be the discriminant of \(x^3+ (u+1) x^2- (u-2) x- 1\), \(K= \mathbb{Q} (\sqrt {\Delta (u)})\), with class group \(C_K\) and class number \(h_K\). The authors prove that (under certain conditions) the ideal splitting 2 in \(K\) is always of order 3 in \(C_K\). Also, under certain congruence conditions modulo 14, they show that the 3-rank of \(C_K\) is the same as that of \(C_L\) for \(L= \mathbb{Q} (\sqrt {-3 \Delta (u)})\), where \(\Delta (u)\) is square-free.
