L'A. utilise la méthode classique des approximants de Padé (des fonctions \(x\mapsto(\log(1-x))^ j)\). Grâce à une modification des approximants habituels, et à l'introduction de polynômes de Legendre modifiés pour les estimations arithmétiques, il améliore toutes les mesures d'irrationalité antérieures de \(\pi\): \(| \pi-p/q|\geq q^{-13.398}\) pour \(q\) suffisamment grand. Plus récemment, l'auteur a obtenu par une autre méthode [Acta Arith. 63, No. 4, 335-349 (1993; reviewed above)] une mesure encore meilleure, puisqu'il remplace 13.398 par 8.0161.
