This paper concerns the Cahn-Hilliard equation with constraints, by means of subdifferential operator techniques. A problem of such a type was recently proposed by Blowey and Elliott as a model of diffusive phase separation. Questions concerning existence, uniqueness and asymptotic behaviour of solutions, treated by Blowle and Elliott in the special case of the deep quench limit, are considered in this paper without such a restriction. The authors study the Cahn-Hilliard equation in a generalized form and in an abstract Hilbert framework.
