In the present paper the author has obtained constitutive results for a rigid-plastic body by taking the limit of a sequence of elastic-plastic materials with finite deformation. The Lagrangian formulation is used. The basic concept involved in this limit is that as the kinematical condition \(E\to E^ p\) is enforced, the constitutive functions can change in such a way that various stress-space conditions are unaffected. Hardening, softening and perfectly plastic responses are discussed. The limit procedure is illustrated by reference to a special class of materials.
