We have presented in this paper an application of the Mori-Tanaka's method to the computation of the effective moduli of cracked bodies without using the equivalent inclusion and eigenstrain concepts. The presented version involves an analysis of considerable simplicity, and is applied to the calculation of the effective shear and Young's modulus of a cracked body with randomly oriented cracks and under plane stress conditions. The adopted procedure is general and can be applied to cracked bodies with plane cracks, oriented as well as random.
