Let \(H\) be a real Hilbert space, \(C\subset H\) be a nonempty closed convex subset and \(\{T_n\}\) be a family of mappings \(T_n: C\to C\) such that the set \(F=\bigcap^\infty_{n=1} F(T_n)\) of common fixed points of \(T_n\) is nonempty. Considering a sequence \(\{x_n\}\subset C\) generated by a generalized hybrid method, conditions on the mappings \(T_n\) are provided under which \(\{x_n\}\) converges strongly to a point of \(F\), more exactly: to the metric projection \(P_F(x_0)\) of the starting point \(x_0\) onto the set \(F\). In the first theorem (the main theorem of the paper), a general assertion is provided regarding a family \(\{T_n\}\) of general mappings. Assuming special mappings \(T_n\), the authors derive in the following 11 assertions known results published earlier by the authors, by Haugazeau, by Bauschke/Combettes and by Solodov/Svaiter.
