The behaviour of a nonlinear single degree of freedom system, subjected to a random excitation in the form of Poissonian impulse sequences is investigated. The stochastic linearization technique and the generalized Fokker-Planck-Kolmogorov (FPK) equation have been used to examine the considered system. The Fourier transform, applied to the generalized FPK equation and the method of characteristics allowed to obtain a general formula for the characteristic function and moments of system response probability distribution. A digital simulation method has been applied to verify the results obtained.
