Several differential equations which describe the evolution of concentration in a binary mixture are discussed, e.g. (I) \(f'(c)-K\Delta c=\mu\), where f is a nonlinear function, \(\mu\),K are contants, c satisfies inhomogeneous boundary conditions; (II) \((d/dt)f+(d/dr)[(1/r)(c-f/r)]=0\), \((d/dt)(c+\frac{4\pi}{3}\int^{\infty}_{0}r^ 3dr)=\Delta c\). Solutions are found in particular cases by the use of the variational method and the method of characteristics.
