The author proves that effectively hyperbolic operators of higher order are strongly hyperbolic. This fact is shown by the method called the recombination of characteristics. The author proved this result for second order operators in two previous papers [J. Math. Kyoto Univ. 23, 503-562 (1983; Zbl 0546.35037) and Publ. Res. Inst. Math. Sci. 20, 543- 584 (1984; Zbl 0565.35065)].
