The authors study the existence, uniqueness and monotone property of traveling wave solutions for the following SIS epidemic system: \[ \begin{aligned} \frac{\partial S}{\partial t}=d_S\triangle S-\beta \frac{SI}{S+I}+\gamma I,\\ \frac{\partial I}{\partial t}=d_I\triangle I+\beta \frac{SI}{S+I}-\gamma I. \end{aligned}\tag{1} \] If \(R_0=\frac{\beta}{\gamma}>1\), then for each \(N_*>0\) there exist two equilibria of (1): \[ E_0=(N_*,0);\quad E_*=(S_*,I_*),\; S_*>0,I_*>0,S_*+I_*=N_*. \] The traveling wave solution \((S(x,t),I(x,t))=(U(k\cdot x+ct),V(k\cdot x+ct))\) connects \(E_0\) and \(E_*\), which is unique (up to a time translation) and monotone with \(U(\xi)\) is decreasing and \(V(\xi)\) is increasing. The authors also show that the minimal wave speed is \(2\sqrt{d_I(\beta-\gamma)}\).
