The authors investigate factorizations of Wiener-Hopf type of classes of matrix functions in the context of Banach algebras of functions over connected abelian compact groups. They introduce the notion of allowable Banach algebras of \(L_1\)-functions defined on a connected compact abelian group. They obtain results on the factorization of Wiener-Hopf type in the context of allowable algebras. Left and right factorization indices are introduced and discussed. Symmetries on matrix functions are investigated and elementary properties of their factorization are studied. The authors also obtain results on symmetric matrix functions a priori admitting a quasicanonical factorization.
