This paper deals with the classification of subsystems of a polynomial system. A system is defined as a pair of complex vector spaces (V,W) for which there exists a \({\mathbb{C}}\)-bilinear map from \({\mathbb{C}}^ 2\times V\) to W, where \({\mathbb{C}}\) is the field of complex numbers. If \(M={\mathbb{C}}[\zeta]\), where \({\mathbb{C}}[\zeta]\) is the ring of complex polynomials, then the system \(P=(M,M)\) is called a polynomial system. In this paper, differences between the theory of systems and that of modules over a principal ideal domain are investigated. Also it is shown that extensions of finite-dimensional subsystems by P are isomorphic to subsystems of P. Finally, the so called purely simple subsystems of P of rank two are shown to satisfy the ascending chain condition but not the descending chain condition.
