Let \(L^ p_ a\) be a Bergman space on the unit disc and \(A^{- \infty}=\bigcup_{p>0} L^ p_ a\). The author shows that if \(f\) is cyclic in \(L^ p_ a\) then \(f\) is outer in \(L^ p_ a\). The converse is unknown (his open question). He shows that if \(f\) is outer in \(L^ p_ a\) then \(f\) is cyclic in \(A^{-\infty}\). Previously he gave a complete characterization of cyclic elements in \(A^{-\infty}\).
