A duality theorem is proved for the category of monoids of Lie type with a fixed unit group: if \(M_i\) is a monoid of Lie type \(\lambda_i\), \(i=1,2\), then a morphism \(\theta:\Lambda_1\to\Lambda_2\) extends to a morphism \(\varphi:M^+(\lambda_1)\to M^-(\lambda_2)\) iff the dual morphism \(\theta^\vee:\Lambda_2\to\Lambda_1\) extends to a morphism \(\varphi^\vee:M^+(\lambda^\vee_2)\to M^-(\lambda_1^\vee)\); moreover, \(\varphi^{\vee\vee}=\varphi\) and \(\varphi\) is 1-1 on idempotents iff \(\varphi^\vee\) is onto.
