Suppose \(p_ n(x)\) \((n=0,1,2,\dots)\) is a sequence of polynomials in the variable \(x\) defined by the recurrence \[ xp_ n(x)=a_{n+1}p_{n+1}(x)+b_ np_ n(x)+a_ np_{n-1}(x), \] with \(p_ 0\) a positive constant and \(p_{-1}=0\). A uniform upper bound is obtained for \[ {| p_ n(x)|^ p\over\sum_{k=0}^ n| p_ k(x)|^ p} \] for \(x\in[b-a,b+a]\) in case the recurrence coefficients have the behaviour \(a_ n\to a/2\) and \(b_ n\to b\) as \(n\to\infty\). The result obtained here is valid for \(p\) a positive integer and holds even when the recurrence coefficients are complex, extending previously obtained results for real recurrence coefficients.
