We recapitulate the basic equations governing the steady plane motion of infinitely conducting MHD aligned flows, finitely conducting MHD aligned flows, and non-MHD ordinary fluid flows. Further we recast these equations in a new form, called Martin's form, by employing some results from differential geometry. The method of finding exact solutions for a class of flow patterns and many flow problems as examples are given and a detailed study of one example is carried out. Some of the impossible flow patterns for all considered classes are mentioned, and a table of exact solutions is presented in the closing.
