This paper deals with combining the dual reciprocity boundary element method and the sequential function specification method for solving two-dimensional heat conduction problems. The spatial variation of the unknown heat flux is approximated using polynomials which reduce the number of unknowns in the inverse algorithm. The effectiveness and the reliability of the method are tested by simulating experiments which consider different boundary heat flux characteristics.
