A theory for one-dimensional incompressible jets of an ideal fluid in a constant pressure atmosphere is presented based on a general theory published earlier by the authors. Governing equations are derived for the general case of a jet in motion along a time-dependent curve. This is followed by a discussion of the case of fluid motion along a fixed curve. The most interesting part of the paper is in the last section where the authors show that, if the fixed curve is a straight line, a circular jet can twist in either sense about its axis.
