The authors propose a new metric (denoted by \(\rho_{cl}\)) in a space \(\operatorname{clos}(X)\) of all closed subsets of a metric space \(X\). They develop the idea presented earlier in their paper [\textit{E. S. Zhukovskii} and \textit{E. A. Panasenko}, Vestn. Udmurt. Univ., Mat. Mekh. Komp'yut. Nauki 2012, No.~1, 15--25 (2012; Zbl 1299.54067)] for subsets of Euclidean spaces. The axioms of a metric are examined in detail, and the completeness of \((\operatorname{clos}(X),\rho_{cl})\), where \(X\) is complete, is checked. The authors compare convergence in \(\rho_{cl}\) and in a Hausdorff metric. The continuity as well as Lipschitzianity of multi-valued maps with respect to both metrics are also compared. This allows the authors to obtain a new Nadler-type fixed point theorem for multi-valued contractions with unbounded values.
