The authors consider the anisotropic Stokes system with essentially bounded viscosity tensor satisfying an ellipticity condition in terms of symmetric matrices with a vanishing trace (instead of all symmetric matrices) and prove existence and uniqueness results for a Dirichlet and a Dirichlet-transmission problem in bounded Lipschitz domains of \({\mathbb{R}}^n\) with \(n\geq 3\) and in exterior domains by means of variational arguments. Then the authors consider a Dirichlet problem and a Dirichlet-transmission problem in bounded Lipschitz domains of \({\mathbb{R}}^3\) for the Navier Stokes system and prove corresponding existence results for data of all sizes. Then the authors prove that for the Dirichlet-transmission problem the solution is unique for small data. Finally, the authors prove existence results for similar boundary value problems for the Navier Stokes system in an exterior domain and for a transmission problem in \({\mathbb{R}}^3\).
