Der Verfasser entwickelt die Meeresniveaufläche auf einer Kugel, falls auf derselben eine um eine Axe symmetrisch verteilte Masse liegt. Diese Masse bewirkt ein Steigen des Meeres auf der Kugelhälfte, in welcher die Masse liegt, auf der anderen ein Fallen. Dies ist für die Erde wichtig, weil je nach der veränderlichen Stellung der Erdaxe und der Veränderung der Erdbahn bald um den Nordpol oder um den Südpol eine grosse Eismasse sich bilden kann.
