The authors obtain some interesting ``in probability'' limit theorems for the maximal and minimal number of points of \(d\)-dimensional empirical and \(d\)-dimensional homogeneous Poisson processes in unions of sets from certain families. Their results demonstrate the surprising fact that there are many sets containing about the maximal and minimal numbers of points, respectively. The authors remark that ``with probability one'' theorems can also be obtained under suitable regularity conditions.
