The authors show that the Oberbeck-Boussinesq system can be obtained as an asymptotic limit of the complete Navier-Stokes-Fourier system provided both Mach and Froude numbers tend to zero. The authors study this asymptotic limit in the context of weak variational solutions on a large interval of time and in terms of ill-prepared initial data.
