The author studies a mathematical model of platinum-catalysed oxidation of carbon monoxide. This model can be rewritten as singularly perturbed system of ordinary differential equations with two fast variables. The author also considers a reduced two-dimensional singularly perturbed system. The main goal of the paper is to look for closed canards solutions. These solutions are characterized by the property that they follow both the attracting and the repelling parts of a slow manifold. The author investigates canard solutions numerically and asymptotically to predict the parameter values at which they exist. He finds an excellent agreement between numerical and analytical results.
