The authors construct new examples of compact minimal surfaces in S 3. They use the maximum principle to prove existence for a free boundary value problem in a fundamental domain of a tessellation of S 3, and then use the reflexion principle. As a consequence they disprove the conjecture that compact minimal surfaces separate S 3 into two domains of equal volume.
