The paper investigates the problem of machine tool chatter occuring due to regenerative feedback. The authors study the stability of linear single-degree-of-freedom oscillators with delayed feedback, solving for the characteristic roots numerically and calling it the matrix Lambert \(W\) function approach. The paper alludes that its approach would give additional insight beyond the specific problem but no precise statements are given. In particular, the expression of the linear time-shift operator for the delay system as an infinite sum of matrix exponentials is presented without any proof of uniform (or whatever) convergence.
