Models do play an extremely important part in revealing to us the underlying structures and real truth of the nature in and around us. Recent research on some models of quantum gravity in three and four dimensions has led to deep interest in the ``quantum tetrahedron'' (QT). In the paper under review, the authors have considered the special feature of the quantized geometry of a tetrahedron that occurs in some of the relevant mathematical models and its relation to the phase space of geometries of a classical tetrahedron in 3 or 4 dimensions. The puzzle: ``Why does the QT have fewer degrees of freedom in 4 than in 3 dimensions'' is addressed. Quantum bivectors, QT in 3 dimensions, QT in 4 dimensions and considerations from quantum gravity are dealt with in detail. There are 31 references comprising papers, reports, thesis and books.
