Rosay and Rudin constructed examples of discrete subsets \(D\) in \({\mathbb C}^n\) with rather remarkable properties, for example, the identity map is the only automorphism of \({\mathbb C}^n\) stabilizing \(D\), and for every non-degenerate holomorphic map \(F:{\mathbb C}^n\rightarrow {\mathbb C}^n\), the image \(F({\mathbb C}^n)\) has non-empty intersection with \(D\). Examples show that it is necessary to impose some conditions in order to generalize these results to complex manifolds. The author in the current paper generalizes these results to weakly Stein manifolds. For example, for any weakly Stein manifold \(X\), there exists an infinite discrete subset \(D\subset X\) such that the identity map is the only automorphism of \({\mathbb C}^n\) stabilizing \(D\), and that for every non-degenerate holomorphic map \(F:V\rightarrow X\), the image \(F(V)\) has non-empty intersection with \(D\), where \(V\) is any irreducible affine variety with the same dimension as \(X\). Here \(X\) is a weakly Stein manifold if there exists a plurisubharmonic exhaustion function \(\rho\) such that \(B_c=\{x\in X\mid \rho(x)<0\}\) is taut for every \(c>0\). In particular, a Stein manifold is necessarily weakly Stein.
