For a complex analytic function \(f\) it is known that if \(f\) has a stratified isolated critical point, then the cohomology of the Milnor fiber of \(f\) has a direct sum decomposition in terms of the normal Morse data to the strata. In this paper, the author reobtains that theorem by using microlocal Morse theory. His method gives the result under the weakened hypothesis that the vanishing cycles along \(f\) have isolated support. He also investigates an index-theoretic proof of this fact.
