The paper begins with results on general properties of bounded approximate units in non-selfadjoint operator algebras. Such algebras arise naturally from the differential structure of spectral triples and unbounded Kasparov modules. Let \((A,H,D)\) be a spectral triple, where \(H\) is a Hilbert \(C^*\)-module, \(A\) a \(C^*\)-algebra represented on \(H\), and \(D\) an unbounded operator on \(H\). The differential algebra \(\mathcal A\) consists of elements \(a\in A\) such that \(a\text{Dom}D\subset\text{Dom}D\), \([D,a]\) is bounded and adjointable, and \(\|a\|_D=\left\|\begin{bmatrix} a& 0\\ D,a\end{bmatrix}\right\|<\infty\). Conditions are given for existence of a countable approximate unit \((u_n)\) in \(\mathcal A\) such that \(\|[D,u_n]\|\to 0\). Then the authors extend the notion of quasicentral approximate units to differentiable algebras and obtain a novel, strong form of quasicentrality in the general context of non-selfadjoint operator algebras. This study culminates in a refinement of Kasparov's technical theorem for differentiable algebras. It is shown that, given an arbitrary pair of composable Kasparov classes, one can find unbounded Kasparov modules which represent these classes and whose product can be constructed in the unbounded setting.
