Let \(1\to\pi\to G\to\Gamma\to 1\) be a split extension of groups. \textit{A. Lubotzky} has introduced a criterion for the existence of a faithful linear representation of a group in terms of a descending series of finite index normal subgroups of the group [J. Algebra 113, No. 1, 207-214 (1988; Zbl 0647.20045)]. Now suppose both \(\pi\) and \(\Gamma\) satisfy the criterion. The authors find further conditions that make that \(G\) also satisfies the criterion. Then they study a Lie algebra associated with the situation.

Let \(1\to\pi\to G\to\Gamma\to 1\) be a split extension of groups. \textit{A. Lubotzky} has introduced a criterion for the existence of a faithful linear representation of a group in terms of a descending series of finite index normal subgroups of the group [J. The authors find further conditions that make that \(G\) also satisfies the criterion. Then they study a Lie algebra associated with the situation.
