In this survey paper the author explains how orbifolds are to be viewed as stacks. The article starts by stressing the fact that if orbifolds are to be considered as groupoids, then we are dealing with 2-categories. Thereafter the author desribes two, complementary different ways to realize orbifolds as 2-categories. One description is to consider orbifolds as Lie groupoids where bimododules replace functors, and where equivariant maps replace natural transformations. The other description is to view orbifolds as Deligne-Mumford stacks over manifolds.
