The main result of the paper shows that eigenvalues of the Laplace-Beltrami operator on a compact Riemannian manifold can be determined in two different ways as limit of eigenvalues of certain finite-dimensional operators in spaces of polyharmonic functions with singularities. In the first case the set of singularities is fixed and the degree of smoothness increases. In the second case the number of singularities increases but the degree of smoothness is fixed.
