Let \(\varOmega=\{\rho<0\}\subset\mathbb C^n\) be a smooth bounded convex domain. For \(P\in\partial\varOmega\), define \(\nu(P):=\frac{\nabla\rho(P)}{\| \nabla\rho(P)\| }\), \(P_\delta:=P-\delta\nu(P)\), \(\delta>0\), \(\varDelta(\partial\varOmega,P,\xi):=\text{ord}_0(z\mapsto\rho(P+z\xi))\). Assume that \(\varOmega\) is of finite type. The author studies the asymptotic behavior of the Kobayashi metric \(F\) of \(\varOmega\). She proves that for sufficiently small \(\delta>0\) and all \(P\in\partial\varOmega\), \(\xi\in T_P^{\mathbb C}(\partial\varOmega)\), we have \(F(P_\delta,\xi)\approx\| \xi\| \delta^{-1/\varDelta(\partial\varOmega,P,\xi)}\), \(F(P_\delta,\nu(P))\approx\delta^{-1}\). A generalization of the above result to the case of \(\mathbb C\)-convex domains may be found in the paper `Estimates for invariant metrics on \(\mathbb C\)-convex domains' by \textit{N. Nikolov, P. Pflug}, and \textit{W.~Zwonek} [Estimates for invariant metrics on \(\mathbb C\)-convex domains \url{arXiv:0812.2793}].
