In the present work, the authors construct a new algebra for generalized functions which is endowed with a canonical embedding in distribution space. They also offer a partial solution for the multiplication problem. It is proved that the set of scalars in the new algebra is an algebraically closed field. Further, a Hahn-Banach extension principle is also proved and a link between the Colombeau theory of generalized functions and nonstandard analysis is provided.
