    A Gauss-Bonnet theorem for the higher algebraic \(K\)-theory of smooth complex algebraic varieties is proved. To each exact cube of hermitian vector bundles, a higher Bott-Chern form is associated. These forms are used to define characteristic classes from \(K\)-theory to absolute Hodge cohomology. These classes agree with Beilinson's regulator map.
