Let \((X,0)\) be the germ of an analytic space, and let \(f : (X;0) \to (\mathbb{C},0)\) be an analytic function germ. One parameter deformations of the pair \(\bigl((X,0),f\bigr)\) are studied. It is proved, under quite general conditions, that the Milnor fibre is homotopy equivalent to the bouquet of the Milnor fibres of the isolated singularities into which it splits in the deformation. If there is no splitting, then the Milnor fibre is homotopically constant.
