This note gives the proof of the following theorem: Let \(f: X\to Y\) be a surjective and proper map between locally compact spaces. If \(f\) is cohomologically \((k-1)\)-connected, for some \(k> 0\), then the cohomological descent spectral sequence is such that \(E^{pq}_2= 0\) as soon as \(q< pk\).
