This is a brief (113 small format pages) book discussing issues of black hole thermodynamics. The book starts from scratch, devoting early chapters to special and general relativity, the Schwarzschild and Kerr solutions, Penrose diagrams, black hole mechanics to build up to discuss black hole thermodynamics. In particular the three laws of black hole thermodynamics are discussed, the Smarr formula, Hawking and Unruh radiation and the black hole information paradox. The book concludes with issues of black holes in string theory, brane solutions, black holes on branes and the more recent discussion of BMS symmetries at the horizon, soft gravitons and black hole hair.
