The authors consider the Einstein equations for a minimally coupled massless scalar field in a plane symmetric spacetime. Homothetic self-similar solutions, {i.e.}, solutions admitting a conformal Killing vector \(\xi^a\) satisfying \[ D_a\xi_b + D_b\xi_a =2g _{ab}, \] are obtained and classified. Two qualitative distinct classes are identified: one containing a time-like naked singularity, the other leading to a future space-like singularity.
