The authors study a generalization of the Guiol-Machado-Schinazi model of species survival that was proposed and analyzed by Michael and Volkov. The model is describing an ecosystem whose population size is given by a simple Markov chain on the natural numbers. An analog to the Glivenko-Cantelli Theorem for the number of the population was proved. The authors also proved a functional central limit theorem for the fluctuations. There exists a threshold above which the limit process is Gaussian with variance bounded below by a positive constant, while at the threshold it is half-Gaussian.
