This interesting article concerns examples of a conjectured duality between holomorphic symplectic varieties. This so-called symplectic duality has been suggested and studied by physicists. In their language, it is a duality between the Higgs branch and the Coulomb branch of a three-dimensional \(\mathcal N=4\) supersymmetric gauge theory. A comprehensive and rigorous mathematical framework to study this duality is not currently available, but some progress has been made, particularly by \textit{H. Nakajima} [Proc. Symp. Pure Math. 99, 193--211 (2018; Zbl 1471.22020)]. As a result, some of the mathematical properties of the conjectured duality are known. \par The authors consider a family of holomorphic symplectic varieties \(X_n\), \(n\in \mathbb N\), that are called (universal) \(\mathrm{SU}(n)\) hyper-Kähler implosions. The authors make a considerable effort to motivate and define them. For instance, it is explained that they are hyper-Kähler manifolds that arise from the hyper-Kähler quotient construction, i.e., \(X_n=M_n/\!\!/\!\!/ G_n\), where \(G_n\) is some compact group, and a description in terms of quiver diagrams is given. The main contribution of this article is a proposal (or conjecture) for the symplectic dual of \(X_n\). As evidence in favor of this proposal, a number of non-trivial checks are discussed; in particular, compatibility with certain conjectured properties formulated in [loc. cit.] is checked.
